"Family-friendly" covers a wide range in the Maldives, from resorts with a genuine full-day kids' club to islands that simply don't turn families away but offer little dedicated for children. The difference matters more here than at a typical family beach hotel.
Kids' club — check the specifics
A kids' club "existing" isn't the same as it suiting your children — ask the age range it covers, its daily hours, and whether it's included or a paid add-on. Some clubs run structured full days; others are a small supervised room for an hour at a time.
Room configuration
Standard villas are often built for two adults; larger families should specifically ask about two-bedroom or family villa categories, connecting rooms, or whether a cot/extra bed is genuinely available rather than assumed.
Reef and pool safety
House reef drop-offs vary a lot by island — some are a gentle shallow wade out, others drop off quickly close to the beach. Ask specifically about this, and about pool depth and supervision, rather than assuming "family-friendly" means uniformly shallow water everywhere.
Shorter transfers reduce the strain
