Soneva Fushi

Soneva Fushi is the original property behind the Soneva brand, and one of the resorts most often credited with starting the "barefoot luxury" style that a huge share of the Maldives industry has since followed — large, private, jungle-set villas without formal dress codes, built around the idea that genuine luxury means fewer rules, not more.

The setting

The resort occupies Kunfunadhoo Island within Baa Atoll — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (see our Baa Atoll guide) — which shapes a lot of the property's identity around conservation and marine biology alongside the accommodation itself.

What it's known for

  • A "no news, no shoes" philosophy — famously few guests wear footwear on-property.
  • Large villa footprints with private pools, set back into island jungle rather than lined up along a beach.
  • An outdoor cinema and observatory, both frequently mentioned as signature experiences beyond the beach itself.
This is a factual overview, not a booking recommendation — confirm current villa categories, inclusions and rates directly with the resort or a travel agent.
