Want the shortest transfer?
Kaafu (Malé) Atoll — including North and South Malé — sits right around the airport, with many resorts a 15–45 minute speedboat ride away. Best for short trips or travellers who'd rather not lose half a day to transfers.
Want the best odds with big marine life?
Ari Atoll has the Maldives' densest concentration of resorts precisely because of its year-round whale shark and manta ray sightings, particularly around South Ari.
Want something quieter and more ecologically distinct?
Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, centres on Hanifaru Bay's seasonal manta feeding events and has a noticeably different, more protected feel.
Want remote, cooler and different?
Addu Atoll, the southernmost inhabited atoll, sits close enough to the equator that it has its own micro-climate and a completely different pace, plus WWII-era British airbase history most visitors never see elsewhere.
Travelling on a budget?
